New Zealand Part 5 From Rotorua we headed northeast to Mount Maunganui. We hadn't really planned to come here but our friend Nicky's parents John and Sue live here and as it's only an hour from Rotorua we thought we'd pop in and say hello. It was quite late by the time we arrived so we found a great campsite by the beach and then drove around to the address given to us by Nicky. There was nobody in so we left a Christmas and New Year's in Korea Christmas 2008The worst thing about being abroad during the holidays is obvious you miss your friends and family. And for your Canadians yes you even miss the snow. The best thing about being abroad during the holidays is...okay there is no good thing about being away from everyone and everything you know during the holidays. I've spent a few Christmases away from home now and I have no say Isnt it grand So yesterday a group of us ventured to the grand palace. Dressed in our conservative clothing with no shorts or bare shoulders many of us were smoldering in the extreme heat. But the place was a beautiful as i remembered it. It was a little overwhelming. After that in the afternoon a group of us went to uni to register for classes im taking society and economy market research seminar in mar Byron Bay We officially made it to Byron Bay Such a beautiful place but oh my god what a bitch to find a place to stay Since it it summer and peak season all of the hostels were booked out. We went around for about 3 or 4 hours looking for hostels or motels to stay in but that was a no go Definitely soemthing that you do not want to deal with when you're hungry bloody hot and have a backpack to Lausanne Lausanne is a pretty Lakeside city with the old town at the top of a hill. It has all the International city staples HM Starbucks etc. And of course the Manor department store food market with the 80 chickens... BBQ El Yunque Cabo Rojo Bacardi Factory and Bday Party and full moon drum circle Amy and I drove up to Doelrsquos house in the afternoon and the person who greeted us was a bundle of smiles and charisma. He was super friendly and not the stereotype image I had of a Puerto Rican man. He told me that as it was Election Day we were heading of to a friend of his BBQ up in the mountains to follow the elections on TV. The though of not even knowing him and going to a party with a New Years in Sydney OK so happy new year's to everyone back at home thought I'd whack up some of the photos I took from NYE over here. Didn't take any photos of the main fireworks display at midnight decided I'd rather actually enjoy watching it The fireworks photos are from the family fireworks at 9pm... still probably the most impressive fireworks I'd ever seen so it's not all badInto my last month or so in Syd Around Lima Hello to all. I want to catch everyone up on my past couple of days before I go away for the weekend. Things have been slow but fun nonetheless and I have gotten an interesting glimpse into every day life in Lima which has been kind of fun. I have just been hanging around Lima this week seeing some family and enjoying time at the beach as well. On Monday I spent the day with my cousin Rosa who New Years in the Alps The whole Larkin gang continued on for New Years' week in La Jorette just outside of Torgon a ski resort off of Lake Geneva. We stayed in a tiny chalet on the side of the mountain with views of the Alps and the Torgon Valley from our balcony. It took a long day of travel from France that started at 5AM and didn't conclude until after 7PM 6 trains and 1 looong winding bus ride up the mountain 1 CHRISTMAS ROAD TRIPS AND NEW YEAR IN OZ Arrived back in Adelaide to stay with Ab and Trav for christmas. so nice to be back in a house with my own room and be able to unpack my bags Trav made an excellent tour guide and showed me all around Adelaide for a few days. his parents also have a beach house down in Yorkes so we all went there for the weekend saw some beautiful beaches soaked up the sunshine and even went out on my first fi
